New Beginnings
Community Development Center (New Beginnings) is a family
resource center that strives to bridge the gap between
students, parents, schools, and other community agencies
for the positive development of the entire family. New
Beginnings’ mission is to enrich the lives of youth
and their families, to educate and enable them to reach
their full potential, and to deliver quality, comprehensive
family development opportunities and other social services
to residents in its service area.
New Beginnings was founded in 1995 by Reverend and Mrs.
Oscar Lewis, as a weekend program. In 1997, the Center
was incorporated as a non-profit, community outreach center.
Today, the Center offers a variety of training and educational
activities at its two sites in Riviera Beach and West Palm
Beach. Its West Palm Beach location at Dyson Circle houses
one of FAU’s four 21st Century Community Learning
Centers.
In January 2000, after a remarkable growth in size and
clientele, New Beginnings combined its myriad of outreach
services into one structured program known as the Youth
Academic Mentoring and Employment Training (YAMET).
New Beginnings has been successful in obtaining the support
of many key organizations and agencies in Palm Beach County,
including the City of Riviera Beach, the School District
of Palm Beach County, Children Services Council of Palm
Beach County, the Palm Beach County Housing Authority,
the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and Renaissance
Village, Inc.
