Capacity-Building Workshop: Starting a Nonprofit

SESSION A:

This session looks at the advantages and disadvantages of starting a nonprofit, as well as key things that nonprofits must be aware of before filing the paperwork for a 501(c) 3.

SESSION B:

 

1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Room: Askew Tower 815
Cost: $45.00

This hands-on session walks representatives of prospective nonprofit organizations through the application process. Applicants receive asistance in completing their applications online. Typically, this process can cost hundreds of dollars with a paid consultant.

Sessions A & B: $70.00

This one-day workshop is designed to teach individuals and organizations innovative ways to raise funds. Learn how to:

  • Identify potential donors and develop strategies for getting on their "list" of beneficiaries.
  • Keep your nonprofit afloat in its first 18 months.
  • Deal with rejection when you ask for gifts and grants.
  • Make an appointment to ask for money and overcome the fear of asking.

Capacity-Building Workshop: Grantswriting Made Easy

This "hands-on" workshop gives participants the tools to write winning proposals. Participants will learn how to read and understand simple to complex Request for Proposals (RFPs); how to avoid fatal flaws; how to collect data that justify the need for their programs; how to identify partners and collaborators; and how to find grants that are in line with their organization's mission.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop targets anyone interested in learning how to write a grant (whether a beginner or a skilled writer), including, but not limited to:

  • Grantwriting Teams for schools, faith-based and nonprofit organizations, and libraries.
  • Staff members
  • Individuals
  • Executives (presidents, directors, managers) who want to learn more about the concepts their staff will be applying.
  • Consultants

 Capacity-Building Workshop: Developing Budgets for Winning Grants

This workshop gives participants the tools to prepare budgets that match their grant proposal. Too many times a grant application is rejected because of incorrect or inappropriate budgets. This workshop will teach participants some of the proven steps in developing a budget that complements the narrative part of their proposal.

Note: During the first hour of this workshop, attendants will learn how to search for grants that meet their specific needs.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is for anyone responsible for developing the budget portion of their organization's grant applications, including, but not limited to:

  • The financial officer or book-keeper for schools, faith-based and nonprofit organizations, and libraries.
  • Individuals
  • Executives such as presidents, directors, managers in order to understand policies and requirements governing budget allowabilities.
  • Consultants
